Our Love Story, Part 2

I’m going to try not to drag this out too much. It’s funny how much comes pouring out of you when writing something like this! Oh, and I got a kick out of all the crickets I heard after putting out the first part. LOL THanks to Sunny for your sweet email and KMH for your comments! Without futher adieu, part two of Love Before the Dot.Com Bubble Burst.

Well, in spite of the Wilma obstacle being moved out of my way, getting close to Sean still proved difficult. The break-up happened in April and by June, he and I still didn’t really talk to one another. For the Fourth of July holiday I was having some friends over because my sister and I had a condo downtown and the view of the fireworks from there was amazing. I invited Sean to come and of course, he declined. He already had plans to go the beach with friends. Damn it. I had pretty much given up all hope at that point. He lived a block or two away from me and I would drive past his place and look up at the windows and wish I were there on the other side. Yes, I was sort of a stalker! But things seemed hopeless so I moved on and began seeing someone else. He lived in another city so we weren’t serious but we got together every other weekend or so and he was a nice guy. He didn’t get me all hot and bothered but he was very sweet and decent. I had given up on my dream ever becoming a reality.

Life was plodding along at a predictable pace. I worked, went home, watched tv, sometimes went to karaoke, went to bed. Well, suddenly Sean began showing up at karaoke when we were all there. I didn’t think much about it because before he worked for my dad, he used to manage the restaurant where the karaoke took place. A big group of us from work would go every week and he ended up hanging out with us a lot. It was great! Then Wilma started coming and it was less great but we still had fun nonetheless. At work one week in August, things were uneventful with the exception of me getting this fortune at our local Chinese food joint:

“The love of your life will appear in front of you unexpectedly!”

Not sure why, but I kept it. We made it to Friday without any major happenings. At lunch that day I was going out with a couple of people and one woman said, “Why don’t you ask Sean to go with us?” Well, that was the funniest thing I’d heard that day so I responded, “He’s just going to say no!” to which she retorted that I wouldn’t know until I asked. Begrudgingly I walked back to his office and asked him, yet again to go to lunch with a group of us. He looked up at me from his computer and he said, “Ok. Sure!” I did a double-take and said, “Really? You’re going to go?” He even offered to drive. Y’all my heart was about to pound out of my chest because I just couldn’t believe it. TWO YEARS I had been hoping he’d go out to lunch with us and it was finally happening! We went to a pizza place and Sean and I bonded over canned peaches. It was silly but I had a bowl of them from the salad bar and he would sneak one when he knew I was looking. Not really sneaking I guess, but cute. His behavior perplexed me because I didn’t dare hope that he was actually interested in me. I was happy at this point just to be in his company and was drunk from the feeling that gave me.

That night my sister was having one of her friends over and we were going to hang out, eat, and play cards. Aren’t we an exciting bunch? LOL Woo! Those wild and crazy kids! So I decided to ask Sean to come. AGAIN he stunned me with a positive response! Sean was coming over to our house! This was phenomenal! My sister was excited, too because Sean was her boss and they got along really well.

At our place later, we found out that my sister’s friend wasn’t going to make it but it was ok to just be the three of us because we were all friends and it’s not like Sean and I were on a date or anything. So Sean came over and we were having a ball. We ate and drank and talked then we decided to play a game. Sort of like truth or dare. It was a game called Questions and you had to go around the table and ask a question to someone and they had to respond with a question in turn. If they responded with a statement, they had to take a drink. Dumb, dumb game but it’s what we did. Probably more fun with a big group of people but we were working with what we had! So we went around the table saying shocking, silly ridiculous things. I was high from the happiness in the room and at one turn I said to Sean, “Did you know I have had a crush on you for two years? and he said without skipping a beat, “DId you know I’ve had a crush on you, too?” Needless to say I didn’t answer that with a question, “SHUT UP!” I said, sounding just like Elaine from Seinfeld. Suddenly the game, and my sister were forgotten. She actually got a little pissed and went upstairs to her room. It was a moment I’ll never forget, sitting across the table and looking into the face of the man I had adored from a distance for two very long years. He looked at me with such intensity that it took my breath away.

We spent the rest of the night talking. It was wonderful! The clock rolled around to 8AM and still I wasn’t tired. We had been talking all night long, getting to know each other, laughing about all kinds of things, when suddenly Sean stopped talking and just looked at me with a slight smile hovering around his lips. “What?” I asked. He didn’t say anything, he just took my face in his hands ever so tenderly and looking into my eyes, drew me in for the sweetest, deepest kiss I’ve ever had in my life. Had I died in that moment, it would have felt like a complete life, because it was the most beautiful and intense range of emotion I’ve ever experienced in one moment. It felt like we kissed for an hour and it was magical to be that close to him and to be able to breathe him in and feel like he’s such a part of me. It was intense. REALLY intense and I knew in that moment that he was meant for me and I for him. It hit me like a Mack truck and I knew that we were going to be together forever.

He was misdiagnosed by the first vet we used here and that led to a situation where the treatment almost seemed worse than the disease. Thankfully, @lawndale_vet helped us navigate that situation and they have nursed this big boy back to a much happier place. We still are uncertain about how much time we have left with him but, for now, he is the happiest we have seen him in a long time. I am so thankful to the staff at Lawndale for, not only providing great medical care, but for loving on him and making him feel like the best boy ever at each appointment. ❤️❤️❤️

We got the first one healed and then he got one on his other paw. Then that one got better but his paw pads got rubbed raw by the protective boot he was in and now are infected. Fingers crossed that this cone helps keep him from licking it so he can heal. Until then, Bowie is going to be a very sad boy, indeed. 😢
