“Alive and Kicking”…Do you remember that song by Simple Minds? When that comes on the radio I have to stop and scream along with it. I love it! It seemed appropriate to give this post that song for a title since we’ve been MIA most of the week. How was your Labor Day weekend? Did you go to the beach? The mountains? Did you shop ’til you dropped during all the doorbusting Labor Day sales? We didn’t do any of those things. We spent our weekend chilling out and fighting the plague of ants that stormed our kitchen after the crazy-ass rain that hit our area earlier in the week. It seems the waves of intruders have ebbed for now with only a few stragglers wandering across the countertop from time-to-time, but I’m still uneasy about cooking anything in the kitchen. I don’t want to draw them back in! Aside from that, we spent a lot of wonderful time together as a family and it was such a great weekend that I was sad for it to end with Sean’s return to work this morning. Friday night, we hung out at my sister’s house and we all played poker (with no money) and Taboo. Man! That was so much fun!! The kids played with us as well and it was so nice for us to sit around a table together and just laugh our butts off. Saturday was much the same. We went out to eat for dinner on Sunday night and the boys were kind enough to allow me to snap some shots of them during that magical light hour just before sunset:
They’re such good buds.
Ryan wanted to explore this darling little street. It’s lined with cute, unique shops, and I love the brick sidewalks.
Eventually, the leisurely pace came to a halt and they took off running down the walkway. Thank goodness it was Sunday and nothing was open!
Monday was spent tying up loose ends before the week began. You know, laundry, housecleaning- the fun stuff! We went out to eat again (the ants were still in the kitchen) and then came home and relaxed watching the dog whisperer. I love him. Cesar Milan is a genius. I think his techniques would work with children, too. He talks about remaining calm, being patient, building trust, and those are all things that are important when dealing with children, too. Yes, it sounds a little crazy to compare the dog whisperer’s methods with child-rearing but, don’t hate! It could work!
Today, my niece came over and she had the cutest hairdo:
I. Love. Pigtails. I wear them all the time myself, but they don’t look this cute!!!
Did I tell you that the boys and I are going to Disney World in a couple of weeks? My parents and sister are helping us $$ go and we’re really excited! It will be my niece’s first time there and I can’t wait to see her face when she sees all her favorite characters. I’m going to take lots of pics!!
I hope all is well in your world! I have some blog reading to catch up on so if you see a flurry of comments from me on your blog, please don’t be alarmed! 🙂

I hope your niece is old enough that the characters don’t scare her too much! My parents have this Marvin cartoon in my sister’s scrapbook where Marvin is saying, “I’m going to see Mickey Mouse! I’m going to see Mickey Mouse!” for four frames. In the fifth frame he is screaming in his stroller as Mickey Mouse stands by. 🙂 My sister screamed at every. single. Disney. character when she was about 2 1/2.
I love the pigtails!!
I have to interrupt this normal comment to tell you: THEY JUST OPENED A RITA’S WATER ICE IN NASHVILLE. I’ve known for four days and haven’t been yet. But we were out of town for three of those days. It is urgent I get there ASAP.

She’s a tough little cookie so I *think* she’ll be okay. She’s totally into Cinderella right now and I expect she’ll be delighted to see her. It’s entirely possible though that she’ll be scared and we’ve all been preparing ourselves for that possibility! I’ll definitely keep you posted.
RITA’S!!! Girl!!! Eat a watermelon flavor for me! Or Cherry!!! Post back so I can live vicariously through you!

I am so glad you posted. I have missed your writing and photos. I had black circles under my eyes. At first I thought I had eaten too much wheat, but then I realized that, no, it was a lack of “This Is How We Do It!” Thank goodness you posted today, I’m not sure how much longer.. I’m verklempt.. Dahling, your photos are like Buttah…-K

I love that Simple Minds song as well as the theme to Breakfast Club. My weekend …. Stephen & team won their very first home game in the new stadium. The next morning he and David did not fly to Baton Rouge to watch LSU beat App due to the change in kickoff time. David & Catherine then went to Asheville for work. Stephen and I watched Nat’l Treasure 2 and I did a lot of laundry. Exciting, I know.

I’m having this huge flashback of 80’s music this week. Simple Minds is topping the list that I have mentally compiled! Thanks for the reminder. 😉
I never really thought about Cesar for kids but you know, I think you may be on to something. 🙂
