Well, it’s official. I’m lame. Today got off to a good start. The kids were up early and were excited about the fair. I was prepared and at my sister’s early so we could get Makena’s seat in my car, get some cash, and go. The first dumb move happened on the way to the bank. It’s called Chick-fil-a. Don’t know what I was thinking by stopping for breakfast but it was totally my idea and we did it. It was good and everything it’s just that…well, you’ll understand why that was a problem in a moment. We got on the road and suddenly it seemed like we were going to be late and that kicked the tension up a notch for me. I hate being late. I hate it when other people are late. It’s a pet peeve of mine and now I’m going to be a hypocrite and be late. Ok, I’ll just call Marin (Rinnyboo) when we get closer and let her know. Traffic was no problem, well we almost got killed by a midget driving a chevette 20 miles an hour on the interstate, but he supports the troops so I guess he’s all right. 😉 We found the place where the fair was, got in and got a parking space pretty easily. This was going so smoothly! We were going to get in reasonably close to the 10am hour so I was feeling good about that. Well, to what should my wondering eyes appear but the world’s largest crowd of ticket buyers at the gate and only TWO lanes were open. The baby was crying and my kids were just a tad bit restless….deep breath…it’s going to be o-kay. After 15-20 mins, tickets in hand, we’re rushing to meet Marin. I was sure she had left and gone on to enjoy the fair. That’s what I would have done, but she’s an angel and a much better person than me because she was exactly where she said she’d be even though I was stinkin’ late. I introduced her to my sis and her babe and we were off to get the kids on some rides.
Unfortunately, Makena was over the whole fair thing. She didn’t want to be in her stroller, she didn’t really want to do any rides. She was sleepy but wouldn’t sleep and she was just done. I was able to get Iain on two rides and allow him to play a game for a prize and then we just had to go. Makena was just not into it. She’s only a year and a half so I don’t blame her. I badgered my sister into coming because neither one of us had ever been to a fair and I thought it would be fun for us. My sister, the wiser of us apparently, kept insisting that Makena would never make it but I assured her that whatever came up, we could handle it. My bad. Poor Marin, she had been such a sport and had waited for us and everything and we ended up only being there about an hour and a half. Marin, if you’re reading this, you’re so incredibly sweet and I apologize for being such a lame-o.
At any rate, here are some of the shots we got at the fair today. Marin, I won’t post any of you and Ian unless you give me permission to do so. Let me know!
Makena had her picture taken in this 3 or 4 times. If this were the only thing she did the whole time she probably would have been happy! Not sure why but she loved this thing.
Here’s Ryan with his favorite thing of the day, an inflatable Spider-Man. He joined Ryan for a swim in tub this evening and is currently tucked into his own bed upstairs. Ahhhh, the life of a celebrity..champagne wishes and caviar dreams.
Here is Marin in the first car and I’m in the second one with Iain and Makena. Funny thing is I think Marin and I look like we’re sisters! Makena actually enjoyed this ride a pretty good bit. Once we left it, she was unhappy.
Just trying to get artsy here.
Iain on the Swing-Go-Round thingy. He rode this with Marin and her son Ian, who is totally adorable and sweet.
Here’s Ryan, fishing to win a prize. He got a car that he played with for 2 seconds tonight. LOL Just can’t match up with Spidey.
All in all, we had fun today. However as I alluded to earlier, Chick-fil-a was a dumb choice because I was too full to eat a single fair food item. There was sooo much to choose from: candy apples, bloomin onions, corn dogs, polish sausage, pizza, roasted corn, turkey legs, cotton candy, deep fried twinkies, deep fried coca-cola, and deep fried PB&J. I was so mad at myself because I couldn’t eat one stupid thing. I am a big Lame-o and people should be on notice. LOL
I hope Marin will still speak to me after today….she was a trooper!!!

Oh, yes! (she rolls her eyes) You’d be much better off eating a deep-fried twinkie than a (albeit processed) chicken sandwich!
Lame, indeed.
And saved yourself a hundred bucks to boot!
shame, shame.
At least you didn’t get trussed up in a trailor, or sweet talked by the “Oddities” guy!
🙂

I just wanted the whole experience, you know? It just felt like I did it wrong, LOL.
A carnie didn’t even talk to me!

Holy crap! We totally look like sisters in the car picture. Even more than my sister and I do! I don’t mind if you post pics of Ian or me (just as long as it is flattering. I have a horrible pic that Buck took of me. I will have to send it to you.)
Can I post a pic of Iain? I have a cute one from the swings when he was telling me about his robot arm! It was so funny cuz he told me he had a robot arm and I asked where he got it and he said he didn’t know but at least he was sure that his robot arm (right arm) was stronger than the other one. It cracked me up.
It was just nice to see you guys in person again. We planned to meet Buck anyway so it was not a problem that you had to leave. Besides, now we get to see you next week too! 🙂
Thanks again for coming all this way.

LOL I know, don’t we though?! I did a double take when I saw that one.
Go right ahead and post a picture of Iain, it’s no problem. I can’t believe he told you about his robot arm. He’s too funny and he comes up with stuff like that all the time.
It was good to see you too, though I was sorry we had to leave before meeting Buck. I was looking as forward to that as much as anything else!
