yesterday Ryan was SUCH a trooper. He had gone to the dentist in March and they found 8 cavities. Yes, you read that right. E-I-G-H-T cavities. They were in four molars and one was so bad they thought he was going to need a crown. Well, the boy never ceases to amaze me. Once we got the diagnosis, he really got serious about taking care of his teeth. We bought a new mouthwash, stopped his constant snacking which they said was the cause, and really focused on how Ryan was brushing his teeth. All of that paid off because with all that work, he was able to retard the growth of the cavities and they were not as bad as they were when we went in March. Ryan got rave reviews from the dentist on that and made it through an hour of dental work like a champ. We were both exhausted after all that, but especially him, and this is what he looked like a little while after we got home:
He took a 3 hour nap! Ryan NEVER does that!! I slept for two hours myself. Iain sat in the family room with us while we slept and watched TV and played with the dogs. When I woke up he said, “Oh thank god you’re awake! I was SOOOO bored!” In spite of the day’s events, it felt like such a wonderful, snuggly day.
You may be wondering what happened to Iain’s prisoner pet. He let it go! Another caterpillar showed up on our patio today and Iain was convinced that it was his pet, Active, coming back for a visit. On a different note, Iain has decided that he is the best video game player in the world and I’m not one to dissuade him from that notion. LOL
Here are some photos I took of him while he was having that epiphany:
I got a little sad when I saw the top one because I could almost see into the future and see the man that Iain is going to become. It was a little weird.
I started my Photoshop class this week so you may see some of my homework assignments here. Already there has been so much information and it’s only the first week! I can’t wait to see how much info I pick up by the end of the course.
Tomorrow I’m hoping to catch up on my blog reading. Sorry if I haven’t left a comment on your blog lately. I’ve gotten wrapped up in things around here but tomorrow I’m making the rounds!!
Hope you’re having a good week!

Are you using PW’s photoshop eye trick? b/c his eyes look AWESOME in those photos!
My son has been on a big teeth brushing kick after an episode of “Lazytown” LOL. Thanks TV!

Oooh, LazyTown! I’m a tiny bit twisted because I think Sportacus is kind of hot. Isn’t it nice when they pick up good habits from one of their shows? Saves me from having to preach about it. LOL
I’m actually doing something different than PW’s trick but I have done that before and it works great, too! Glad you like how they look!

Poor guy. He looks like he really needed that nap too.
I know what you mean about seeing into the future sometimes when you look at your kids. The funny thing is that when they get older and don’t look like kids anymore sometimes you look at them and see into the past. Sad and weird and pretty cool too.
whimsigal says
Carri, he really did need it, he was worn out.
I forget sometimes that you’re a few steps ahead of me in the kid game! I can imagine that seeing them as you described is weird, but very cool as well. Not that I’m in any hurry to experience that. 😉

Poor Ryan. I hope he is feeling better today.
Ian DOES look older in that pic. I don’t know if it is the angle of his head or his neck or what, but it is weird.
The boys got haircuts! Ian still says he wants his hair “long like Daddy’s” but he did ask for the front to be trimmed so he can see:)
Ooh, have fun with the photoshop class!

Marin, I think you’re right…it’s the angle of his head and the perspective from which the shot was taken.
They did get haircuts! It was just getting too long for them in the front.
You know, there is a link in the sidebar to another photog’s blog and she does tutorials on Photoshop all the time. It’s the MCP link. Her tutorials are free and I’ve picked up tons of tips from going there. Also, she’s running a couple of contests right now that you might find fun!

What photoshop course are you doing, and yes, I noticed the eyes too – they look great.
Is going to make a very handsome man methinks!
Cheers,

Hey, Cate! Thanks! I’m taking an online Photoshop class through a forum that I belong to. It’s called Phaunt U.
So far this week, I’ve learned a lot and we were just covering the basics! Next week we really get into it!

Poor little guy, that’s a tough dentist visit. Sounds like the perfect snuggle day to me as well.
Good luck on the photo shoot. My crossables will be crossed and I’ll be sending you lots of happy thoughts. Not that you need them because you are very gifted, but just because. 🙂

Thanks, Sheri!!

8 cavities! Did you have guilt because I would have guilt? Then again I always have guilt.

When my dd went to the dentist for the first time she had 8 cavities as well. She has ‘pronounced molars’, they are deeper than most. She had to get the work down in 4 stages. I was crying and the dentist told me not to worry, that I could of brushed her teeth 5 times a day and it still would of happened.
whimsigal says
Joan, I absolutely did at first. I started thinking about all the things since birth that I had done wrong for him that would have led us to 8 cavities. But after speaking with the dentist this time, they convinced me that it was the snacking that did it. And he was snacking on “healthy” things, not sweets. He was eating cheese and crackers but the dentist said the carbs can really tear up your teeth.
Summer Fae, thank you for your reassurance. That was really sweet of you. That’s basically what they told me too as far as the number of times we brushed. They said it was really important for him to go a significant amount of time between snacks. It was hard at first but now, he’s keeping busy which has helped him a lot. He was eating out of boredom I think.
Thanks again!

Such pretty editing on these pictures.

Thanks, Donna!

I’m finally catching up on my blog reading! Your photos are looking absolutely amazing. Wow!
It’s funny that your son named his caterpillar Active. My son had a frog he named Action once. 🙂 Action is now buried in our front yard and I keep wondering if I’ll unearth his bones some day while I’m gardening.
whimsigal says
Colleen, that IS funny that they both chose similar names! Especially since I thought it was a pretty random name choice in the first place! Thanks for your compliment on my photos.
