Am I alone on this? It’s rougher this year than in years past and I don’t know why that is. When Sean’s alarm goes off tears prick the backs of my eyelids because IT’S TOO DAMN EARLY to get up. Plus the dog is licking me in the face which also makes me want to cry because I know I have to get up and let her out. Ugh. I hate daylight savings. Why do we bother changing anymore? It seems silly to me. I think we should pick one and stick with it. Ok, rant over.
Let me tell you about our weekend. It was pretty uneventful. Except for my niece’s birthday party, we didn’t do anything worthwhile. Makena’s party was a lot of fun though! She had an absolute ball and was so funny when opening all her presents. Sean and I went a little bit crazy at the Disney store when picking out her presents but we just couldn’t help ourselves.
Here she is opening her presents.
This is the Monkey Cake my sister made for her. Makena LOVES monkeys and calls them “aaa aaa”, you know, like sounds a monkey makes.
Here is the Birthday Set if you’re interested in taking a look.
On Saturday night, we watched the 3rd Indiana Jones movie with the boys. Ryan has been all about Indiana Jones since Lego came out with the Lego version so we bought all the movies to watch with them. The 1st and the 3rd are my favorites and we’re really looking forward to the new one that’s coming out. An interesting thing happened while we were watching the movie on Sat. night. In case you haven’t seen it, this one has Indy going to rescue his dad from whom he’s been estranged for 20 years. They have an adversarial relationship which is made obvious through dialogue and there is one point where Indy’s dad does something that impresses Indy. He gets this look on his face which was perceptible to me and Sean and surprisingly, Iain picked up on it, too. He said, “Hmmm. His dad is more than Indiana thought he was.” Iain is so in tune with people it’s really uncanny.
Yesterday the boys spent quite a bit of time playing a game on Iain’s computer called, “I Love Math” and they seemed to really enjoy it. Iain has asked me to teach him Math and Science so I’m going to find some things for us to do to incorporate his desire to learn those subjects without getting all schooly about it. He was reading to us the other day and his ability to read has really increased over the past few months. He said he’s able to read a lot more of the words in his games now which is helping him play better.
I have about a week and a half to go before I get the all clear from my doctor, although I’m not sure what I’ll be able to do at that point. I’ve been reading somethings on the internet that lead me to believe I will still have to be careful for about 6 months. Anyone out there know about that?
Hope you all had a good weekend!
