Today, I wanted to do something different. I called my sister at 9am and expressed the desire to get out of the house and go off on an adventure and she was game. So at 11, we were all off to the zoo. No small feat considering that my niece absolutely hates to ride in the car for any period of time and it takes 45 minutes to get to the zoo. NO matter! We were positive, upbeat, and excited about our trip.
Things were going just fine, a few small issues but nothing major. A few exhibits that we’d hoped to see were closed so that was a bummer but all in all we were enjoying our visit there. Here are some photos from our time before the big blowup:
This is the “lake” at the zoo. Usually it’s full to bursting but as you can see, the recent drought has all but dried it up.
The fall foliage was exceptionally beautiful today. All along the highway the trees were stunning in their autumn dressage. This shot was taken by looking directly up at an overhanging bough.
Here are the three amigos, Makena, Iain, and Ryan.
This thing is pretty cool. It’s a row of exercise bikes that are somehow hooked up to the gears you see in the first part of the picture. They boys love to pedal their hearts out and try and turn the gears. It’s actually pretty tough to make them move but they managed to get them to turn a little bit.
This is a photo of Makena on the way home in the car. The boys were sharing their cotton candy with her. She hated it, can’t you tell?
From now on, I think the boys and I will look for adventure on our own. I can’t figure out what it is but there is something about the dynamic that changes when we get together with my sister and Makena. Not that they’re doing anything wrong, it just seems like tensions run especially high when we’re all together. It makes me sad because my sister is my best buddy and I want them to come on adventures, too!
Anyway, the boys and I came home and went to the comics store so they could get some new issues of their favorites, then we headed over to Target and bought, “Meet the Robinsons”, which if you haven’t seen it yet, you should. It’s a wonderful, wonderful movie. I cried so hard at the end, it was embarrassing. Then we went and picked up their favorite pizza and came home and had movie night. We watched “rise of the Silver Surfer”, which was all right, then “Meet the Robinsons” which was a hit by all accounts.
Now I’m here typing away and we’re watching “Rise of the Silver Surfer” again. It’s been a pretty nice night and a nice day.

Hey! We totally got “Rise of the Silver Surfer” from Netflix yesterday!! How weird.
I much prefer “Meet the Robinsons.” We all do. Ian will probably be getting that one for Christmas so we don’t have it yet.
I loved the foliage picture. Just gorgeous!

I liked the FF movie but Meet the Robinsons was the best, hands down. We watched it again this morning and, I cried again, like a baby.
I can’t believe how moving the story is! It has totally inspired my kids.
Thanks for the compliment on my leaf picture. I really like that one, too. 🙂
