As Promised

I got a little bit sidetracked yesterday and didn’t post about a drawing that Iain did. We were very surprised when he described the meaning of it to us and I thought I would share it with you.

iain's generator.jpg
This is Iain’s Generator. Iain says it “holds all things, Pure Evil, Evil, Good, and Balance”. It also supports life. THe four things around the exterior of the generator are its “Children”, you can see that inside of each of them are the four parts of the generator, too. Iain said that eventually, the generator will break away and the children will be ready to survive on their own. I found this fascinating, that he was dealing with these concepts and that artistically, he wanted to express his idea. He never ceases to amaze me.

The weather is getting warmer and the boys are starting to spend more and more time outdoors, which is great. They grabbed a spade and went digging in the yard, looking for different bugs and they had a couple of helpers:

Here, the boys and Lily are looking at something.

In this photo, our resident squirrel, opposum, snake killer is on the hunt for something interesting. He ended up digging up some bugs and barking at them for a half an hour.

I took this picture of Iain, tweaked the color in Photoshop and really liked the result. The only thing I didn’t like was how grown up he looked in it!! Made me just a tiny bit sad.

Here’s a photo I took of Ryan. He had been sitting and eating some ice cream when I asked him to look out the window. I wanted to practice taking a portrait type shot. He is almost always happy to oblige me!

Ryan spent some time yesterday playing a video game that used to be one of Iain’s favorites. There is a lot of reading in the game so he asked me to come upstairs with him and read it to him. When we got up there and some words popped up on the screen, he asked me to read them and I asked him to read what he could and I’d fill in the rest. The words read, “Are you done appreciating art for today, Luigi?” Ryan read every single word except for appreciating and it was wild! Both boys have shown tremendous progress in their reading ability. We’re going through one of those spurts where they’re really curious about new words and mathematical concepts and my doubts about us unschooling are shoved even farther out of my mind.

This weekend, we’re going to try and get the boys individual rooms put together. Their new beds got here on Wednesday and we just have to take apart their old rooms and clean them up a bit before we can think about putting the new beds up. We don’t have any plans to go away for the Easter holiday because Sean actually has to go in to work some this weekend. 🙁 We’re going to have fun anyway! Easter lunch and Ryan’s birthday party are both on Sunday and he’s really looking forward to that!

I’m going to have another post later today on a topic that I don’t plan on discussing again for a while so come back if you can!

Wow! That drawing (and the concept behind it) is fascinating! Isn’t it amazing to hear and see all the great ideas that our kids come up with? Please tell Iain that I really like his drawing.

Iain and Ryan are both looking so big!

I love the story behind Iain’s picture. He should have pitched a movie idea about it to Liberstein last night.

Jamey loved Iain’s drawing. He was excited to see it because Iain started it while we were there. 🙂

He was misdiagnosed by the first vet we used here and that led to a situation where the treatment almost seemed worse than the disease. Thankfully, @lawndale_vet helped us navigate that situation and they have nursed this big boy back to a much happier place. We still are uncertain about how much time we have left with him but, for now, he is the happiest we have seen him in a long time. I am so thankful to the staff at Lawndale for, not only providing great medical care, but for loving on him and making him feel like the best boy ever at each appointment. ❤️❤️❤️

This is the face of a very sad boy. Bowie has been This is the face of a very sad boy. Bowie has been suffering with licking granulomas since last March. We got the first one healed and then he got one on his other paw. Then that one got better but his paw pads got rubbed raw by the protective boot he was in and now are infected. Fingers crossed that this cone helps keep him from licking it so he can heal. Until then, Bowie is going to be a very sad boy, indeed. 😢

My sweet friend @tlventura made it for me and it’s one of two fall decorations I kept when we moved. Hope you’re having an awesome day wherever you are, friends!! ❤️❤️❤️
