Mornings with Nan

Yesterday we took the boys over to their Nan’s house for a visit. We don’t see her very often and the boys had been complaining about it so we decided that we needed to call and set something up. The boys were so excited! See, we used to see each other all the time, at least once a week, but situations changed and that schedule fell to the side and it seems so hard to find time to get together anymore.

When we got there, Ryan wanted to play with Play-doh because Nan ALWAYS has play-doh and other really fun things to play with, too. Had we been at home, Ryan would have been devastated to learn that the only colors were yellow and white but, at Nan’s house yellow and white were perfect! He made Sonic the Hedgehog:

Then, the boys asked Nan if she would go up into the attic and get a tornado game that they like to play, and I was fully prepared to have to explain why Nan couldn’t do it but she said Yes. Nice! Nan and I have had our issues but one thing I can say is that when she is with the boys, she is everything you imagine a Nan to be, and I’m so glad they will have only fond memories of her when they grow up and have children of their own. I wish my grandparents had been like that. Anyway, Nan actually played the game with them and they had a ball!

Ryan won that game and then the boys wanted to play something else so Nan got out Twister. I didn’t get any pictures of that and I should have because Sean joined in on that game and it was pretty funny. At one point, Iain started yelling about his balls hurting, and I thought I was going to pass out! It was pretty funny….to her credit Nan seemed unfazed by it.

The last thing they all did together was play Legos. Nan has an awesome bag that holds all her Legos and I want one! I may have to try and make it myself. It’s a circle shape with grommets around the top edge and a rope through the grommets to draw the bag up. It’s neat because the bag lays completely flat on the floor and gives you a large surface with which to play with the Legos and then you simply draw the bag together when it’s time to put everything away. Seriously, I need this!!

The boys really enjoyed their visit with Nan, as did we, and I hope we can do it again soon! We love you, Nan!

    Marin,

I’ve been trying teach them other euphemisms that might not sound so bad to elderly relatives, like twig and berries. LOL I though Sean was going to fall over when I told him I was doing that.

I love having boys, too. I was always one of the “gross” girls so having boys has really brought that out in me full-force!

He was misdiagnosed by the first vet we used here and that led to a situation where the treatment almost seemed worse than the disease. Thankfully, @lawndale_vet helped us navigate that situation and they have nursed this big boy back to a much happier place. We still are uncertain about how much time we have left with him but, for now, he is the happiest we have seen him in a long time. I am so thankful to the staff at Lawndale for, not only providing great medical care, but for loving on him and making him feel like the best boy ever at each appointment. ❤️❤️❤️

We got the first one healed and then he got one on his other paw. Then that one got better but his paw pads got rubbed raw by the protective boot he was in and now are infected. Fingers crossed that this cone helps keep him from licking it so he can heal. Until then, Bowie is going to be a very sad boy, indeed. 😢
