Our Love Story, the end of how we got together

*****************This is Part 4**************************

It was a steamy night in our Southern town that August of 1996. Sean and I had just spent hours talking out on my front porch but it only seemed like minutes had passed. When he invited me up to his apartment, I was torn about whether or not to go. Just the day before he had told me that he wanted to remain platonic until he could figure things out. He wasn’t sure he wanted to risk his career on the boss’ daughter. But whatever reservations I had quickly fled and Sean and I made the short trip up the block to his place.

Let me stop here and tell you something. I’m messy. Not in a “couple of things out of place” kind of way but in a Sanford and Son way. There was a joke at work about my car in fact. Whenever there was something that someone needed, no matter how random or bizarre, we always checked my car first. 9 times out of 10 I would have what they needed. Suffice it to say that when I entered Sean’s apartment for the first time, I was stunned at the neatness of his place and a little worried about what he must think of mine! His place was an apartment in a grand old home. High ceilings, hardwood floors, huge windows. It was really beautiful. Sean had lots of plants dotted around his apartment, and there wasn’t a thing out of place. Good lord. We were certainly going to be the Odd Couple.

While I took a seat on the sofa, Sean went back into his room to get the photos of himself with long hair. As I looked at the pictures I realized how much there was about him that I found incredibly interesting and I also recognized that, for two years, I had categorized him into something that he wasn’t. There were many more layers than the one he showed at work and I was really looking forward to getting to know about all of them.

It was getting late and I was getting tired. We had gone through all the old photos and now were just sitting together on the sofa. Sean reached down and grabbed my legs, turned me slightly, and laid my legs across his lap. I looked at him, perplexed by that move. Didn’t seem particularly platonic to me. I got quiet and said, “What are you doing?” He stared at me intensely then leaned in and kissed me. “I don’t think we should stay just friends,” he said. My heart was pounding furiously in my chest. “really?!” I said excitedly.

“really…” He pulled me close to him and kissed me again. From that moment on, Sean and I were basically inseparable. Whatever free time we had, we spent together. It was one of the most amazing times in my life and, even as I sit here writing this story, I get the same feeling in my heart that I did back then. He and I have talked many times about how wonderful our relationship is and how glad we are that we found each other. We’ve been married for 10 years but it feels like only yesterday we were sitting in his apartment together, experiencing all the giddiness that comes from the newness of love.

After we decided to be a couple, and I mean right after that, Sean got the word that the promotion he wanted was his. This was great news EXCEPT, he had to move to Texas. Well, if you’ve ever looked at a map, you know Texas is rather far from NC. Not exactly conducive to a long distance relationship so Sean asked me to move with him. I had never lived away from NC, and never far from my family but I threw caution to the wind and moved to Texas with him, shocking all my friends, my coworkers, and my family. His family didn’t like it very much either. Partly because they were worried he was rushing things, and partly because they didn’t approve of shacking up. We didn’t listen to the naysayers and frankly the rest is history. This man is the best thing that’s ever happened to me. He has shown me what it’s like to experience truly unconditional love for someone. He really does love me no matter what. He honors me, thinks of me in all things, and respects me as his equal. Some of my friends don’t have that and I feel so blessed to have this amazing man as the love of my life and the father of my children. He’s a beautiful person and he makes me feel beautiful, too.

Sean, I know you’ve been incredibly embarrassed by this process, but thank you for allowing me to share our story with my friends here. I want the world to know how much I love you and how much you have changed my life.

Ok, friends. Now I’m hoping to see how you all met your loves!!! I love Love Stories and can’t wait to read yours!

Thank you so much for reading mine and for encouraging me to put it out there!

love,
evie

    Deeg!

Thank you so much for that comment! What an incredibly nice thing to say! You really made my day. Please don’t be a stranger, I’d love to hear more from you!

I’m so glad you enjoyed our story and am especially glad that you could feel that it was an honest recollection of the events. My husband was so funny! I didn’t tell him that I was doing this and when he was reading the blog a few days ago, he started laughing and said, “Dude, what are you doing?!” He didn’t ask me to stop though so I think he must have liked it, too. 🙂

    Thanks again for your comment!

Sigh. And they lived happily ever after. What a beautiful story. I’m not sure I’m brave enough to share mine, though!

sigh. : ) I love a good love story too. that was wonderfully written as well, keeping me on the edge of my seat and my heart thumping. One day I’ll write ours. Now that you’re finished, I’m afraid of it. His whole family reads my blog (often a problem, actually). But one day..

Oh Madeline, come on! Sean’s family reads my blog, too! Unless your story’s too racy….lol.

I hope you will share a little something. Just a teeny tiny bit?

    🙂

He was misdiagnosed by the first vet we used here and that led to a situation where the treatment almost seemed worse than the disease. Thankfully, @lawndale_vet helped us navigate that situation and they have nursed this big boy back to a much happier place. We still are uncertain about how much time we have left with him but, for now, he is the happiest we have seen him in a long time. I am so thankful to the staff at Lawndale for, not only providing great medical care, but for loving on him and making him feel like the best boy ever at each appointment. ❤️❤️❤️

We got the first one healed and then he got one on his other paw. Then that one got better but his paw pads got rubbed raw by the protective boot he was in and now are infected. Fingers crossed that this cone helps keep him from licking it so he can heal. Until then, Bowie is going to be a very sad boy, indeed. 😢
