We’re Outta Here!

Tomorrow morning, we’re heading out on what will probably be the only vacation we take this year, going up to PA to visit my hubby’s brother and family. This will be our third 4th of July vacation up there and we’re all looking forward to it very much. The first year we went, we made the mistake of driving up I-95, through DC. Please believe me when I say we won’t be doing that ever again! The traffic was an absolute nightmare so now we take a more picturesque route through Virginia, West Virginia, etc. It’s a beautiful drive and I’m really looking forward to all the scenery, the quaint farms and livestock that dot the countryside as we zoom past in our little suburbiamobile.

I don’t know what my posting capability will be while I’m there but I’m taking my camera and my laptop, just in case.

Yesterday our stimulus money arrived and just in time, too because things had gotten quite scary around here. I took a little bit of money and bought the boys some much needed clothes and, just as the money came right when we needed it, Old Navy was having a fabulous sale! Many things we marked down to 50% off so I was able to buy many things for very little money. $91 to be exact. Not too bad for outfitting a couple of boys with summer gear. When we arrived at the store, Iain said, “Momma, I want to pick out things that I like to wear. Is that ok?” Oh. My. God. He’s getting so big, already interested in shopping for himself and not interested in me picking out anything at all for him! Of course I let him choose almost everything and tried to offer a little guidance where I could. Iain has really been into these muscle shirts and old navy had some athletic ones for $9.50 and some cotton ones 2 for $10 dollars. I told Iain that he could get two of the cottons for the price of one of the style he had chosen. After carefully weighing all the styles and options, he settled on his first choice because it was the one he liked the best.

Had I been shopping on my own I would have gone with the 2 for $10 for economy’s sake but I was happy to relax and let him make these choices. We also went to Target to pick out a couple of snacks for the road and Iain again was making some interesting connections. There was a box of Roll-ups that was $2. It was advertising a contest where you could win $5 in specially marked packages. Iain asked me, “Momma, what’s -2 +5?” Well, damn. After I picked my jaw up off the floor I asked him if he had an idea already of what the answer was and he said, “Yeah, I think it’s 3.” Right on, Dude. Right on!!

Ryan has been really into Indian Jones for a while and loves to dress up as his favorite archaeologist. Here he is yesterday all decked out in his best Indy regalia:

Nevermind that it was 85 degrees yesterday, the kid is ALL about the details and wasn’t about to pretend that he had on an Indian Jones outfit. no way! He picked out the whole thing, all the way down to the button down shirt inderneath the jacket! I love his attention to detail even though it can get a little frustrating when we can’t find exactly what he wants when he wants it.

Well, that’s all from our neck of the woods and, if I don’t post anything while we’re gone, please have a safe and happy 4th of July holiday. Of course, if you don’t live in the States then just have a great week! 🙂

    Awesome costume, Ryan!

Wow, Iain is doing lotsa math. That is cool that you let them pick their own clothes. I bet that Iain will feel a lot better in the one shirt he chose than he would if you bought 2 shirts he didn’t
    want as much.

    Have a great trip!

He was misdiagnosed by the first vet we used here and that led to a situation where the treatment almost seemed worse than the disease. Thankfully, @lawndale_vet helped us navigate that situation and they have nursed this big boy back to a much happier place. We still are uncertain about how much time we have left with him but, for now, he is the happiest we have seen him in a long time. I am so thankful to the staff at Lawndale for, not only providing great medical care, but for loving on him and making him feel like the best boy ever at each appointment. ❤️❤️❤️

We got the first one healed and then he got one on his other paw. Then that one got better but his paw pads got rubbed raw by the protective boot he was in and now are infected. Fingers crossed that this cone helps keep him from licking it so he can heal. Until then, Bowie is going to be a very sad boy, indeed. 😢
