GASP!!! Hold on to your butts unschoolers. I’ve gone mad…mad I tell you!!

Guess what I just got? Ahem…

No, your eyes do not deceive you. That indeed is a curriculum of sorts and we’re going to start using it this week. I know. It’s akin to an atheist claiming to be born-again. Well, we needed something. We needed a shake-up, something to get us moving again. Unfortunately, neither the boys nor I really knew what to do about it so after a recommendation from a local homeschooling board, we settled on “Moving Beyond the Page” which is a unit-study type curriculum. I have a whole lot more to say on the topic and will do so this week. I want to give it the attention and the detail it deserves since we have been unschooling for almost 2 years now.

Stay tuned…

Well I already knew about this but again wishing you well. Life is about continuously trying things -some work, some don’t.

I, of course, had to follow your comment to see WHO you were and saw this. I am guessing that is how you found me? 😀
Good luck with MBTP. My kids ALL love it and they couldn’t be more different from each other.
I can’t wait to see updates from you!

Though the spiral-bound ones aren’t familiar to me, we have some of the other ones in your picture. 🙂

Joan’s right – taking bits and pieces according to what suits me is how I’ve always operated, and something I can understand and appreciate.

Hope you find some bits you love!!

Joan, thanks for the well-wishes! I am already thinking ahead and wondering what paths this will lead us down.

Hey, Teri! Welcome! You are correct; I followed a link at the MBTP forum to your site. Thanks for checking me out and come back any time.

Steph, thank so much for your support. Choosing this route made me feel like a sell-out in some respects and though I have known for a little while that we were going this way, I was afraid to post about it. lol

K, I will definitely keep you posted! So far, everyone is really excited and ready to get going.

Chrissy, thanks so much for your comment!! I was so nervous about writing this post and it’s nice to see you guys roll with me!

I’m planning a much more in-depth post tomorrow!

“afraid to post about it”…lol…The Unschooling Mafia is going to get you… ;P But, I know what you mean.

I love unschooling, but I also love unit studies. There’s room for both! I think a good balance is always tough to find, and always a juggle.

I’ve heard great things about Beyond the Page!

Never heard of Beyond the Page, so of course I have got to go check it out. Girl, we have been doing this unschooling thing for a LONG time now. Seriously, it makes me feel old just thinking about how long it’s been. And we are always trying out anything that looks interesting. Sometimes that has been a packaged curriculum and sometimes it’s as simple as a new book or website or game.

We have really enjoyed unit studies in the past. I think you guys are going to have a blast!

I am going to see if I can find what we did with the economic cycle. I wasn’t blogging back then. It was my son’s FAVORITE project (and quite labor intensive!). Poppy was also their favorite book last year. In our family’s terms, they wanted to know why it wasn’t a movie yet. HA

CP, is that awful? I really did think there might be some backlash. Not from my friends of course! Perhaps some random comment or two from unknown folks.

Carri, it really looks interesting to me! It’s not schooly and that’s what I like about it.

Teri, that would be great! You know what’s funny? When I told my oldest we were going to be reading “Charlotte’s Web” he said, “Can’t we just watch the movie?” I said we could do both. 😉 He doesn’t like to read so I will probably be doing a lot of reading out loud. I really can’t wait to get started! All of the literature that goes along with the “lessons” looks so good!!

Ha! I know exactly what you mean re: unschooling (again, not my friends). This year we’re using some curriculum as well and it’s working out in a good way.

I added it to my blog. That was one of the MOST labor intensive and fun things we have done! 😀

I couldn’t figure out how to back date it, so it is the top post on my blog. :p

I do a TON of reading out loud because my younger two love to hear the literature that he is doing. Watching the movie is always the reward for finishing the book here. 😉 And we always have very animated conversations about what the movie makers messed up. LOL
I even found a Whipping Boy movie (Are you going to do that one? It was also very popular with my son. I did that one with our co-op and the kids LOVED it.)

Great books in those unit studies. It’s really just “strewing” new materials for them (total unschooly language:) with some organizational zeal in there that you can tweak according to your kids’ interest. It’s ALL good to me so long as it works for your family. Hope it’s fun.

He was misdiagnosed by the first vet we used here and that led to a situation where the treatment almost seemed worse than the disease. Thankfully, @lawndale_vet helped us navigate that situation and they have nursed this big boy back to a much happier place. We still are uncertain about how much time we have left with him but, for now, he is the happiest we have seen him in a long time. I am so thankful to the staff at Lawndale for, not only providing great medical care, but for loving on him and making him feel like the best boy ever at each appointment. ❤️❤️❤️

We got the first one healed and then he got one on his other paw. Then that one got better but his paw pads got rubbed raw by the protective boot he was in and now are infected. Fingers crossed that this cone helps keep him from licking it so he can heal. Until then, Bowie is going to be a very sad boy, indeed. 😢
