Learning Can Happen Anytime

Uncategorized

This morning when the boys woke up and came downstairs, they were commenting on the fact that their noses were stuffed up. I told them that springtime can make that happen and they wanted to know why that was so. We had a lively conversation about pollen and it’s effects and I told them that as spring progressed they would be able to see the pollen because it would make our car yellow. A few minutes later while letting Melvin out, I saw this on the patio:

In case you can’t tell by looking at this stellar photograph I took, it’s part of a tree branch that has some pollen dangling off of it. Excitedly, I grabbed this and brought it in for the boys to look at and touch which they did for a few minutes before running off to try and win Ganondorf on Super Smash Bros. Melee. They were able to see where new buds had formed on the twig as well as how the pollen stalks had actually popped out of some buds and were turning into leaves on the end. The interesting thing is, right before Ryan stepped out of the room he turned and said, “Momma, thank you for showing that to me. I really liked it.” Made my whole stinking day. It’s moments like those that illustrate how powerful unschooling can be.

The picture looks professional. It seems artistic, even if it’s not meant to be.

Scott, thanks for your comment! I appreciate your compliment on my photo as any artistic qualities of it were totally accidental. You’re my first comment ever so, again, thanks!
