Togetherness

family· fun· gratitude· unschooling

We have been working on spending more time together. It’s so easy to send the kids off into the playroom and demand that they entertain themselves but we’ve decided we don’t want to be “those” parents anymore. We know that they can play by themselves sometimes but it’s unfair to them to expect that they do it all the time. We’re trying to consciously say yes when they ask us to play and the past couple of days have been really fun.

Last night, Sean and the boys were building with Magnetix. THey seem to like these more than Legos.

These magnetix happened to be on the one section of carpet that looks ok. The rest is Sooooo grody.

Sean and Ryan worked together. God, how I love Sean. There’s nothing more beautiful to me than seeing him interact with our boys.

Iain and I worked together on his project. He was trying to make a very tall tower but it kept falling down.

As you can see, he didn’t get all worked up over it.

Today, Iain asked me to play a video game with him so we played Mario Party 8 on the Wii. I have to admit, I’m a sucker for video games. they’re so much fun and we had a blast playing together. By the end of the game we were hugging and high-fiving. Even Ryan was hanging out with us and calling for group hugs! It was a really great afternoon.

Some days I feel like this all must be a dream. Can life really be this cool?

So cool. Yes. Life is Good. Sometimes I feel like unschoolers are hoarding a big, beautiful secret!

I think I’d have to agree with you. Although most people would think we were crazy once we tried to share it with them!

I think the joy itself comes from knowing and loving our children for who they really are. I’m so happy that you guys had such a wonderful day. 🙂

Awww..I am so glad to hear you have had a wonderful bunch of days with your family.

I like our little unschooling secret. Like you said, few people would probably believe us if we told them how wonderful it is.

I love the picture of Iain. He is obviously having a ball with you. I have totally been on a video game kick lately. I just finshed Jade Empire on my XBOX today. I have never been able to play with a Wii before. Maybe Iain will let me try next week?
