We’re going on a picnic and I’m going to bring….

My Camera! 🙂

Today the weather was gray and cool so the boys decided they wanted to go on a picnic down at the park. Guess what we did? Yep, we went on a picnic! I called my sis and invited her to go so she and my niece strolled over and then we were all off to the park.

We ate lunch right when we got there because Makena was hungry and the boys wanted to sit with her while she ate.

I think she is mimicking Ryan stuffing his mouth full of PB&J.

Iain and Ryan brought their posse to the park with them and Iain had to get them all out before he could sit down to eat.

After lunch we were playing on the equipment when suddenly we saw a giant bird fly over us. It was the Blue Heron that lives in our neighborhood, we call him Hamilton. It was the first time in a while that we had seen him and I ran to get my camera to take a few shots of him. I missed him down in the park but he had flown up by the lake so we walked that way to get home. Here are the pics I got:

Hamilton getting ready for take-off

I used my zoom lens for this shot because we were so far away. I cropped it and that’s why it’s not that sharp a photo.

Hamilton

All of sudden he took off again and I just started snapping!

Isn’t he beautiful? Iain thought it was the coolest thing he’d ever seen when Hamilton took off into the air.

Today has been a great day, like the last two didn’t even happen. We’re all happier and nicer to each other and it’s just been lovely. We’ve all been hanging out together for most of the day and it’s been so nice! Thanks for all the comments yesterday, too!

I’ve always had a soft spot for herons. What a magnificent bird–and great photos!

Few things are better than fall picnics! 🙂

Hey everybody! Thanks for the comments. That bird has apparently been a fixture in our neighborhood for a while but it had been so long since we’d seen him. He is huge when he’s flying. His size is deceptive when he sits down.

Tiffani, you’re so right. Fall picnics are the best. No bugs, no god-awful humidity. It was really, really nice.

    Stephanie,

Today and yesterday have both been wonderful days. So good they feel almost magical.

    thanks for your supportive words!
